BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Members of the Board of Directors guide Yakima Valley Community Foundation activities by volunteering their time, talent and treasure for the betterment of Yakima County.  They represent the public’s interest by generously sharing their knowledge and skills in support of a wide variety of worthwhile programs.

YVCF board members determine policy, assume fiduciary responsibility, build assets, make grants, establish goals, ensure high-quality staff performance and strengthen the Foundation’s presence throughout the Yakima Valley.

As Yakima Valley Community Foundation continues to grow, I am able to see how our grantmaking and philanthropic leadership are producing very positive results throughout the valley.

In just five years, the Foundation has already defined itself as a vitally important instrument that improves the lives of people who live in this part of the world. During this time, more than $2,000,000 has been awarded to regional nonprofit organizations – and in 2010, new efforts will propel further advancements.

For example, this year the Community Foundation will award the first-ever grant from the Mary Monroe "Mollie" Davis Fund in support of Yakima County students pursuing their first associate's or bachelor's degree.  Administered through the Yakima Rotary Trust, this program will provide marvelous educational opportunities for residents of the Yakima Valley.

And, in accordance wth the Foundation's strategic plan, board members are reviewing YVCF grantmaking efforts over the past five years.  To date, most grants have been made in response to the needs expressed by regional nonprofit organizations.  This year, in addition to making "responsive" grants, the YVCF board is considering a more proactive approach to grantmaking, wherein a portion of available grant funds may be earmarked for a critical community need, such as crime reduction, homelessness, fighting hunger, etc.

Look for the 2010 YVCF Grant Guidelines to be posted online by March 31, 2010.

The YVCF Board of Directors is privileged to serve as stewards of local charitable resources that support so many worthy causes and touch so many lives. On behalf of the board, I invite you to share your time, talent and treasure in the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for Yakima Valley residents.

Sincerely,
